It’s been a fast-paced summer at Turnchapel Wharf, where resident marine tech company Oshen has built and deployed 15 new autonomous ocean robots—known as C-Stars—in just six weeks.

Five C-Stars have already completed a successful commissioning mission and departed the UK. Another five are hitting the water this week, with the final five launching shortly after. The team is even planning drone footage to capture this growing constellation in action.

Oshen is on a mission to transform how we monitor the oceans. Despite covering 70% of the planet and influencing everything from global trade to climate, our oceans remain vastly under-observed. While large autonomous surface vessels exist, Oshen is breaking new ground with small, rugged, low-cost robots designed for mass deployment and real-time data delivery.

These C-Stars can cluster together ahead of severe weather to improve forecasting or quietly monitor subsea infrastructure for suspicious activity. Already operating across three continents, Oshen’s fleet is delivering valuable data to research institutes and beyond.

Based at Turnchapel Wharf, the team is demonstrating how compact, cost-effective innovation can have a global impact. From defence and logistics to science and climate, Oshen’s technology is turning the tide on ocean intelligence.
